Gulf Projects delivered the new Maki Mono store at The Plaza, Palmerston North.

The project involved transforming the tenancy into a fully operational food retail store, with Gulf managing and coordinating the construction, specialist trades and building services through to completion and handover.

The works included structural framing, suspended ceilings and seismic bracing, custom retail joinery, stainless-steel food preparation benches, tiled finishes, flooring, glazing, plumbing, electrical and lighting, together with the shopfront works and associated services.

A major feature of the finished store is the suspended canopy wrapping around the open shopfront, incorporating illuminated signage, red feature lighting and the geometric ceiling lighting system. Behind the customer-facing counter are purpose-built preparation, cooking and wash-up areas with integrated refrigeration and food-service equipment.

American Oak veneer and Sovereign Oak finishes, patterned wall panels, stainless-steel work areas and the angular tiled front counter give the store its distinctive character. A communal table with fixed seating extends the customer area into the mall concourse.

The completed project demonstrates Gulf Projects’ experience in delivering detailed food retail projects involving structural requirements, specialist trades and coordinated building services within an operating shopping-centre environment.
